Due to the genetic improvements of the sow, more and more piglets are born per litter. To feed all her piglets, a sow has to produce a large amount of milk every day. For this she needs nutrients, which she can get from the feed. It is therefore very important that the feed intake of the sows is good. Not only for milk production but also for her own condition. A sow should not lose more than 10% weight from farrowing to weaning. After all, a sow that loses less weight in the farrowing pen gives better results in the next litter.
